Protection against lightning strikes is comprised of the Lightning Protection System (LPS), which is responsible for capturing, conducting, and dissipating the lightning discharge into the ground. The paper also addresses Surge Protection Measures (SPM), which aim to protect the system's electronics from transients caused by electromagnetic and electric field effects. To ensure the safety and continuity of operations at power plants, the implementation of the Electric Storm Alert System (ESAS) is proposed, designed to protect workers from potential accidents involving lightning strikes at the site. This system includes a lightning discharge detector capable of identifying three main components of lightning strikes: optical, magnetic, and electrostatic pulses. In this way, the system aims to prevent accidents related to step voltage, touch voltage, or upward leaders, ensuring greater safety for employees in the workplace.
