13th Young Researchers Seminar (YRS 2027)

The YRS offers young transport researchers from Members of ECTRI, FEHRL, FERSI, EURNEX and HUMANIST the opportunity to gather and interact during a three-day seminar, where they can improve their presentation skills in written and oral scientific communication through tutorial guidance. Tutoring is provided by senior researchers who are themselves active in a truly international scientific culture. The Young Researchers Seminar is organised every two years in a different European country.

VISION & OBJECTIVES

The ambition of the Young Researchers Seminar is to prepare a new generation of transport scientists and science-based professionals in the area of transport (across all modes) by:

• Training young researchers belonging to the Supporting Organizations' Members (ECTRI, FEHRL, FERSI, EURNEX, HUMANIST) on how to prepare papers and present oral scientific communications, through direct interaction with assigned tutors.
• Enabling exchange and networking opportunities for young transport researchers with their peers and tutors.

The Young Researchers Seminar not only builds scientific excellence, but also improves presentation skills and the ability to communicate science.

WHO IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE?

YRS 2027 is intended for young researchers working at organisations belonging to ECTRI (https://www.ectri.org/), FEHRL (http://www.fehrl.org/), FERSI (https://fersi.org/), EURNEX (https://www.eurnex.org/) and HUMANIST (https://www.humanist-vce.eu/). Young researchers are encouraged to participate by their own organisations (institutes or universities). They should be novice researchers, preferably PhD students; postdoctoral researchers may also be accepted, within 1–2 years after their PhD. They should be involved in at least one of the research domains listed below.

Tutors are senior researchers from the Supporting Organizations.

WHAT IS OFFERED?

• Technical sessions with oral presentations of 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of feedback and Q&A.
• Keynote sessions on specific subjects.
• Sessions on scientific methods, tools, and the research process.

Technical sessions are organised under the supervision of the Steering Committee. Tutors moderate the sessions and provide feedback on presentations. Alongside these scientific activities, networking activities such as technical and social visits and an official dinner are also included.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Abstracts should be submitted in English, following this format:

• Paper title
• Abstract (up to 1000 words)
• Keywords
• Research domain (among the six domains of the seminar)
• Authors' contact details and affiliation

Deadline for abstract submission: 30 September 2026

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Steering Committee. Authors will be notified by the Organising Committee by 1 December 2026.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Guidelines for paper preparation will be provided to young researchers whose abstracts have been selected. Authors must submit the first version of their papers by 1 February 2027. Exchanges between young researchers and tutors to prepare the full paper and presentation will take place between January and May 2027. Final papers must be submitted by 20 May 2027.

SEMINAR FEES

The young researcher fee of €300 covers:

• Certain organisational costs
• Coffee breaks and lunches for the three days
• The official dinner and social visit

The fee does not cover travel and accommodation expenses, which are to be covered by participants' organisations.
