Online social platforms are complex ecosystems with unpredictable behaviors. Data-driven studies offer insights but face limits like short-term datasets, opaque algorithms, and restricted access from platforms like X/Twitter, Meta, and Reddit. To overcome this, researchers use socio-physics models (e.g., opinion dynamics) to explore phenomena like echo chambers and information spread, though these models often oversimplify reality. AI-driven simulations using Large Language Models (LLMs) offer an alternative, enabling controlled experiments on hidden factors like algorithmic influence and linguistic diversity. The Simulating Societies satellite aims to create a forum for the CCS community to explore both traditional models and LLM-based simulations of social media.
Submission Guidelines
Authors are invited to submit abstracts related to published or unpublished research on simulations of complex social systems.
Submissions should be at most two page long in PDF format (including references and figures) and should include title, author(s), and affiliation(s). Including at most one figure is recommended but not mandatory. All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee based on technical quality, relevance to the workshop’s scope, originality, significance, and clarity.
