Description
The “Best Portuguese Internet Research Award of the Internet Society 2024” is an initiative of the Portuguese Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC.PT) with the aim of promoting and rewarding the best research results, carried out in Portugal, with relevance and potential future impact on an evolution of the Internet aligned with the objectives of the Internet Society. These goals can be summarized as follows:
- make the Internet accessible everywhere and for everyone, with decentralized control, interoperable, reliable and trustworthy;
- increase user security and protect citizens' rights online; and
- contribute to combating abusive and disproportionate surveillance, censorship for political or racial reasons, disinformation, hate speech and social disintegration.
Eligible papers
Papers eligible for the prize are any papers that have already been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication, or have already been published, that are aligned with the objectives of the prize and that are “open access”, or have an accessible version without restrictions (e.g. arXiv or equivalent). In this edition, papers published or to be published between mid-2024 and the end of 2025 in journals classified in Q1 of the Scimago Scientific Journal Ranking (https://www.scimagojr.com) or conferences classified as A or A* in the Core ranking (https://portal.core.edu.au/conf-ranks/) are accepted.
Other works not published in the places mentioned in these lists, but of high quality and relevance to the objectives of the competition, may also be submitted.
Prize value
The prize is worth 2,000 € and will be awarded to the authors of the winning work in a public session to be held, except in cases of force majeure, at the institution where the award-winning research took place, or at another location agreed with the award-winning authors.
The Scientific Committee reserves the right not to award the prize in a year in which there are no submissions of sufficient quality.
